Electric Bus Trail in Aberystwyth

Ceredigion County Council are trialling an electric powered bus on the Aberystwyth Park and Ride service that runs from Park Avenue to Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth.

The provision of an electric bus on this service 503 in Aberystwyth, has been identified in the Aberystwyth Sustainable travel centre bid made to WAG in 2010.

The Solo EV provided by Optare is being operated by Mid Wales Transport from Tuesday 4th of August until Monday morning 9th of August 2010. The service using this vehicle is operating from 0800hrs until 16:30hrs each day.

The trial vehicle is being charged each evening at the Glanyrafon depot of Ceredigion County Council.

The trial is being carried out to evaluate this vehicle for this particular route and to establish operating procedures and driver training for  a zero emission vehicle.

It is hoped, should the trial prove positive, that this service will be operated using an electric powered Solo EV early in 2011.
