FREE ‘LITTLE GREEN BUS’ FOR HAVERFORDWEST

12 TACHWEDD 2010

Two free new buses have been added to the Haverfordwest Town Bus service, operated by Silcox Coaches.

The ‘Little Green Bus’ service will run around every 15 minutes between Haverfordwest Town Centre and Withybush Retail Park.

The shuttles (services 301 and 304) are free between the two sites, stopping at Haverfordwest Bus Station (stand 6) and outside the new Marks & Spencer store at the Withybush Retail Park.

The vehicles operating the service will be powered by recycled vegetable oil and have been purchased by Pembrokeshire County Council as part of a Sustainable Travel Centre Project. The Welsh Assembly Government has funded the scheme - via the South West Wales Integrated Transport Consortium (SWWITCH).

The launch of the Haverfordwest Sustainable Travel Centre scheme has coincided with the arrival of new key retailers at the out of town Withybush Retail Park site, which has emphasised the need to maintain sustainable transport links between the retail park and the town centre.

To coordinate with these developments, the rest of the Haverfordwest Town Service has also been redesigned, making full use of the two vehicles being purchased. Services 301/303/304 and 305 now provide circular routes around the town at more regular intervals than the previous 301 and 303 services. Apart from the free shuttle sections,  the routes have a flat rate of £1.60 (adult) or £1.05 (child), with All Wales Concessionary Travel Pass holders carried free of charge.

Some changes to the 311 Broad Haven and 313 Clarbeston Road services have been necessary to ensure that broader bus operations within the town work in the most beneficial way. These include new links to rail services on the 311 bus service.
