Arriva Trains Wales Industrial Action Sun 6 March 2011

We regret that there will be no Arriva Trains Wales train services on Sunday 6th March. This is due to an industrial action imposed by the ASLEF union.

There will be limited bus services in place and this service will be offered on a first-come first-served basis. We advise customer to postpone all non-essential travel or travel via other train operators where possible.

There will be limited bus services for the following routes:
Milford Haven to Swansea via Carmarthen (NOT serving Clarbeston Road, Clunderwen, Ferryside, Kidwelly, & Gowerton) – 2 Hourly
Fishguard Harbour to Swansea (connecting into / out of ferries – stopping at Carmarthen only)
Pembroke Dock to Carmarthen (NOT serving Lamphey, Manorbier, Penally, Saundersfoot, Kilgetty, Narbeth) – 4 services in each direction
Swansea to Shrewsbury (HoWL – serving Llanelli, Llandeilo, Llandovery, Llanwrtyd Wells, Llandrindod Wells, Knighton, Craven Arms, and Church Stretton only) – 1 service in each direction
Bridgend to Cardiff Central via Barry – 2 Hourly
Barry Island to Cardiff Central – Hourly
Rhymney to Cardiff Central – 2 Hourly
Merthyr Tydfil to Cardiff Central – 2 Hourly
Treherbert to Cardiff Central – 2 Hourly
Aberdare to Cardiff Central – 2 Hourly
Ebbw Vale Parkway to Cardiff Central – 2 Hourly
Newport to Hereford – 2 Hourly
Hereford to Shrewsbury – 2 Hourly
Shrewsbury to Crewe (NOT serving Yorton, Prees, and Wrenbury) – 2 Hourly
Aberystwyth to Wolverhampton (NOT serving Borth, Dovey Junction, Machynlleth, Caersws, Wellington (Salop), Oakengates, Telford Central, Shifnal, Cosford, Albrighton, Codsall, and Bilbrook) – 2 Hourly
Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury – 2 Hourly
Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton (NOT serving Oakengates, Shifnal, Cosford, Albrighton, Codsall, and Bilbrook) – Hourly
Machynlleth to Pwllheli – 1 service in each direction
Chester to Shrewsbury – 5 services in each direction
Chester to Warrington Bank Quay / Warrington Central – 2 Hourly (after 1400)
Chester to Holyhead – (NOT serving Shotton, Flint, Abergele & Pensarn, Conwy, Penmaenmawr, Llanfairfechan, Llanfair PG, Bodorgan, Ty Croes, Rhosneigr and Valley) – 2 Hourly

Bus timetables will be available online as soon as possible. We are still in discussion with local bus operators to finalise bus timetables for Sunday 6th March.

We regret to advise that there will be no bus services on the following routes:

Wrexham - Bidston
Conwy Valley line
Swansea – Cardiff – Customers are advised to use First Great Western services.
Cardiff - Newport – Severn Tunnel Junction - Gloucester - Customers are advised to use Cross Country services
Manchester to Chester via Wilmslow and Stockport – Customers are advised to use Northern services
Crewe - Chester - Customers are advised to use Virgin Trains
Maesteg
Llandudno Junction to Llandudno
Penarth to Cardiff Central – Use local Cardiff Bus services

First Great Western, Cross County, Northern and Virgin Trains services will not be affected by this strike action.

Why are your drivers taking this action?

ASLEF, the train driver’s trade union is in dispute with the Company over pay and have announced a overtime working ban. We are disappointed with their decision, however are working to resolve the situation.

What services will you provide on Sunday 6th March?

There will be no Arriva Trains Wales train services on this date. A limited bus service will be in place to some destinations. Details on bus timetables will be available soon.

I have already booked a ticket – can I change my travel plans?

We are working on a ticket easement policy for Sunday 6th March. Details will be announced shortly.

I have already booked a ticket - can I have a refund?

If you have booked to travel on one of the affected routes and no longer wish to travel, you can have a full refund and should seek a refund from where you purchased the ticket.

Refunds must be applied for within the 7 days following the disruption.

I have a season ticket - can I get a refund?

We are working on a refund policy for Sunday 6th March. Details will be announced shortly.

Can I claim compensation for any disruption that I experience on the day?

Under the National Rail Conditions of Carriage and our Passenger’s Charter, we do not accept liability for delays caused by industrial action and so regrettably we can’t reimburse the cost of alternative travel arrangements or any other consequential losses. 
    
Are other train operators working normally on these strike days?

Yes we understand that First Great Western, CrossCountry, Virgin Trains and London Midland will all be operating their planned services on the strike days. Our stations where other train operators call will be staffed as per the usual arrangements.
