BEST EVER GOWER SUNDAY BUS SERVICE
Starting 17th July, Gower gains a ground-breaking Sunday bus service creating more weekend travel opportunities for residents and visitors than ever before!
Gower Sunday Explorer will run every Sunday until 2nd October and will be back for an extended spring/summer/early autumn season in 2012 and 2013
The BayTrans inspired project links most parts of Gower with each other at two-hourly intervals and enables easy journeys both within Gower and to and from Swansea. It will be particularly useful for a variety of walking itineraries.
Conceived two years ago as a bid for funding from the Swansea Rural Development Partnership, it has undergone a number of changes due to local circumstances whilst retaining its original aims to widen travel choices on days when traditionally, public transport provision has been poor.
Commenting on the initiative, Councillor John Hague, Cabinet member for Environment said ‘this will give a welcome boost to the economy of Gower by encouraging more day visitors and also give back residents their seven day link with Swansea and beyond.’
John Davies, Project Officer for sustainable transport partnership, BayTrans added ‘Sundays are the most popular days for active recreation in Gower and I am delighted this will be helping residents and visitors to travel around in a more environmentally friendly way’
The buses will be operated by First Cymru. General Manager Kevin Hart welcomed their introduction and said ‘First Cymru is committed to providing services of quality to meet the aspirations of both residents and visitors in Gower. These new weekend services complement the excellent weekday services already operated by First’
