Public Sector Industrial Action Strike 30th Nov

22 TACHWEDD 2011

Here we will update you on public transport services that will or will not be affected by these strikes.

Stagecoach Bus

Have explicitly highlighted that they will not be affected by the strike.

Newport Bus

All Newport Bus services will be running as normal. Newport Transport will be running the Cardiff-Newport service 30 (which it normally shares with Cardiff Bus) in its entirety. They will accept all Cardiff Bus tickets and passes on this service on 30 November.

First Cymru

Service update 12:15 30.11.11: A Trades Union march is shortly (1230) to take place in Central Swansea, from the Guildhall to St. Mary's Square. This will affect services running via St. Helens Road, which will be diverted via Oystermouth Road until the march has passed

Service update 10:00 30.11.11: As a consequence of a picket line at Swansea University, ftrmetro service 4 is running between Morriston Hospital and the Civic Centre only. Service 82A is serving the University stop on Mumbles Road and not running via the University/Singleton Hospital link. All other First services are today expected to run as normal.

We would like to reassure customers that First Cymru services, including

Park and Ride Services operated on behalf of the Council, will be operating

as normal on Wednesday 30 November.   It is possible that services will be

delayed though, particularly in those areas where there are protest marches

and / or picket lines, so customers are advised to leave extra time for

journeys if possible.

The destinations we have identified as possibly needing service diversions

are as follows (with the alternative stopping points):

Singleton Hospital

4 (enter/exit Fulton House)

116 (enter/exit Fulton House)

3A (Sketty Lane roundabout, drop off Maternity unit, enter/exit University

main road/Fulton House)

Cardiff Bus Statement

Transport around Cardiff is set to be affected this Wednesday (30 November 2011) as it is confirmed that all Cardiff Bus services in the area will be withdrawn as a result of nationwide industrial action.

Cardiff Bus has been advised by the two Trade Unions representing its employees, UNITE and UNISON, that, following a ballot of its members, their members intend to take part in strike action on the 30 November in relation to proposed changes to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).

The strike action means that insufficient employees will be attending work to allow Cardiff Bus to safely run a bus service.  As a result, the company has confirmed that all of its services are cancelled on 30 November.

Managing Director of Cardiff Bus, David Brown, says: “It is with regret that we confirm that bus services on Wednesday will be withdrawn as a result of strike action.  We had hoped to have sufficient staff numbers to be able to run a limited service but, unfortunately, this is not possible.  We will, however, be operating a full service again from Thursday 1 December.

“Customer safety is paramount and we will only provide services as far as it is safe for us to do so.  Although it is now fairly certain that strike action is going ahead, we would ask our customers to keep an eye on our website and social media feeds for latest updates in case anything changes.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their understanding, and trust that they will recognise that this is a political dispute over which the Company has no control or influence.”

Customers holding season tickets will be entitled to claim a day’s travel pass free of charge on presentation of their ticket at our Customer Services Centre in Wood Street.

In case anything changes in the meantime, updates will be provided to the media and will also be available on the Cardiff Bus website (www.cardiffbus.com), Facebook, Twitter and Traveline.  Real time updates will be provided online, and information is also available via the Cardiff Bus customer helpline on 029 2066 6444.
